About Lee Ann

Lee Ann Thill | Painting & Mixed-Media Art

Artist Bio

Lee Ann Thill (b. 1973) is a painter and mixed-media artist whose abstractions of cellular structures and processes look beyond the clinical to the felt experience of invisible disabilities. Originally from Texas, USA, Lee Ann has had type 1 diabetes since age 5, which has been a primary theme of her work. More recently she has also explored her neurodivergence and a family member’s neurodegenerative disease. This expanded application of reimagined cellular forms as a visual language conceptualizes disability as both individual and relational.

She earned a BFA in Painting & Drawing and Ceramics from Tyler School of Art (1996), but in order to secure healthcare access, she shifted her career path, graduating with an MA in Art Therapy from Drexel University (2004) and a PhD in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University (2021). After 25+ years as an art therapist, she is reinventing her aspirations to be a professional artist. From her home studio in New Jersey, she is expanding her body of work, extending her reach to viewers and collectors, and continuing to evolve as an artist.
